Description

Archaeological watching brief undertaken by CFA Archaeology Ltd to monitor the excavation with a mechanical excavator fitted with a toothless bucket, of foundation trenches at land rear 41, 41A cambridge Street, Wellinghborough, for the erection of a four-storey building. The excavation was conducted in 7 different dates, from the 30th of January to the 17th of July when the excavation was terminated. Two brick-floor from the 19th Century were recorded. They were located on two different levels and possibly formed part of two different buildings, now demolished or partially demolished . No significant archaeological finds or features were discovered during the works. The absence of archaeological features may be due to the intense continuing construction activity that has characterized Wellingborough, starting from the post medieval period onwards.
