Description

A total of eighteen trenches were excavated across Areas 4, 5 and 58; ten measured 50m long (Trenches,1-5, 7-8, 11-13), while the remaining eight trenches measured 30m long (Trenches 6, 9-10, 14-18), with all trenches measuring 2m wide. The trenches targeted specific archaeological features identified during previous geophysical survey and tested suspected ‘blank’ areas. The evaluation identified a series of enclosures, ditches, a post-hole and ring-gully dating to the Iron Age, and an enclosure and pit of Roman date, overlain by medieval cultivation features.
