Description
Various small interventions around the Chester Farm Estate, including monitoring of the underpinning of the railway viaduct at Irchester, monitoring of footpaths and of a replacement fence post. {1} The works comprised the monitoring of the top dressing in stone of the existing footpath from Claudius Way carpark to Chester House, extension of the car park area by laying of matting on the surface of field and observation and recording of 9 small foundation pits for the bases of information panels along the Drift. The monitoring of the top dressing of the footpath and the laying of matting for additional car parking were designed to have no impact upon the site and did not penetrate the surface. The foundation pits for the signs were excavated to a maximum depth of 0.35m and were entirely within topsoil and ploughsoil. All the works covered were designed to have zero impact on preserved buried remains. {2} Intermittent monitoring of the works was carried out of the construction of a route from the A45 down to the river crossing, from the Claudius Way car park and of the compound directly south of the Claudius Way carpark and the crane platform on the river floodplain. The works entailed the construction of each element in such a way that there was no ground penetration or damage and that construction materials did not spread beyond the protective matting. Once the old bridges had been removed and the new bridges installed the temporary surfaces were removed to expose the original ground surface which rapidly started to regrow.
