Description
The excavation achieved several of the aims set out in the East Midlands Historic Environment Research Framework. All exposed archaeological features were recorded, their form and spatial arrangement determined, and their function surmised based on what was known about other Roman rural settlements. Two Roman dated boundary ditches were recorded, one forming part of an enclosure (identified on geophysical survey results), a small group of pits and postholes were recorded within this enclosure. These features contained fragments of Roman tile associated with a hypocaust system, as well as an assemblage of pottery which included imported Samian ware, which could be indicative of a high-status dwelling in the vicinity of the site
