Description

{1} A single trench, measuring 30m by 5m was excavated, but it was expanded twice in order to better understand the archaeological remains. There was a 10m by 6m extension to the south of the trench and a 10m by 4m extension to the north. There were a number of stone foundations relating to the villa, with differing construction style and orientation indicating more than one phase of construction. Associated artefacts suggest occupation during the 2nd to 4th centuries. Overlying the demolished villa was a possible timber building, possibly dating to the late 4th or early 5th century. [Digitisation of trench not possible, no co-ordinates]
