Description
Following on from previous geophysical survey and trial trenching (OASIS ID hs2molah1-404440) targeted excavation took place across a probable Iron Age enclosure. Topsoil and subsoil were removed mechanically and features excavated by hand. Consistent with the previous geophysical survey and trial trenching work, the investigation confirmed the presence of a substantial D-shaped enclosure, encompassing an area of 0.6ha. Based on current artefactual evidence the enclosure dates to the middle to late Iron Age. Previous geophysical survey of the Site suggests this enclosure is one of several, probably intercutting enclosures, with a sequence of three rectilinear enclosures identified to the east of the site boundary.
