ENN110908 - Aynho Park Plot 2, 2020 (Observation)

Border Archaeology (BA) was instructed by the Clients to carry out Archaeological Observation (AO) of groundworks for the construction of three properties, including basements, on Plots 1-3 at Aynho Park Corner Aynho Northamptonshire OX17 3BQ (Planning Refs. S/2015/0871/MAF, S/2019/0521/MAF). This report details the results of the archaeological work carried out on Plot 2 (NGR: SP 52124 33166 - approx. centre), for which two soakaways, a bioseptic tank pit and a series of drainage trenches were excavated, along with the foundation trenches for the footprint of the property itself. No features of archaeological significance were identified. Project Results: With the exception of the large soakaway located in the SE corner of the development, all areas of groundwork revealed a sequence of topsoil and subsoil overlying the natural substratum. The made ground revealed in the SE soakaway was identified in place of the subsoil and this was possibly the result of ground activity associated with the construction of the road running E-W to the S of Plot 2; the topsoil recorded in the bioseptic tank pit may also have been affected by this construction activity as it seemed to contain modern construction waste. The drainage trenches on the W side of the development also showed evidence of root disturbance from the trees that line Plot 2. The programme of works carried out at Plot 2 Aynho Park Corner revealed no features of archaeological significance. Information from OASIS online form
