Description

A 1:2,500 scale level 3 photogrammetric surbey was carried out by the RCHME Air Photography Unit of an area of approximately 41 hectares situated to the north east of the town of Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire. The project was carried out on behalf of Thames Valley Archaeological Services to aid evaluation of the area in the light of future development. The main objective of the survey was to produce a 1:2,500 scale plan of all the archaeological features visible on available aerial photographs in the form of crop marks and earthworks. The resultant plan was in the form of an overlay to the relevant O.S maps. The mean accuracy of the plan was within +/-1.7 metres. The features recorded included the line of a Roman road, fragmented linear ditches and the traces of ridge and furrow.Photogrammetric plans were produced using the AERIAL 4.20 rectification system published by Bradford University. All field boundary control was taken from Ordnance Survey 1:10,000 and 1:2,500 plans. The north-east part of the survey area has previously been surveyed by Northamptonshire County Council. An accompanying project report was produced, and is held with copies of the original plans and the digital files by the RCHME. (Collection UID:1030386)
