Description
University of Leicester Archaeological Services undertook a Watching Brief on land at 1 Sterling Court in advance of a proposed residential development. Post-medieval pits were found in the south-western part of the site which may be related to the quarrying of ironstone. The remains of a small brick building constructed between 1900-1920 was also found during the work. To the north-east a short stretch of a stone-built culvert was identified which had been truncated at either end. The drain did not produce any dating evidence, but it respects the alignments from the Main Street frontage towards the rear of the properties.
