Abstract/Summary

This report details the results of an Archaeological Observation, Investigation, Recording, Analysis and Publication (OIRAP) on Land at 1 Sterling Court, Main Street, Loddington, Northamptonshire (NGR: SP 81414 78488). The work was carried out on behalf of A.P. Lewis & Sons Ltd. by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS). The work was undertaken between 30th November 2023 - 21st August 2024 in advance of a proposed residential development. The aim of the work was intended to provide a record of the archaeological remains in mitigation of the impact of the proposed development and addresses the requirements placed on the planning permission for a scheme of work comprising OIRAP. Four building plots are proposed with associated access, landscaping and infrastructure. Post-medieval pits were found in the south-western part of the site which may be related to the quarrying of ironstone. The remains of a small brick building constructed between 1900-1920 was also found during the work. To the north-east a short stretch of a stone-built culvert was identified which had been truncated at either end. The drain did not produce any dating evidence, but it respects the alignments from the Main Street frontage towards the rear of the properties. The archive for the work will be deposited with Northamptonshire Archaeological Resource Centre (Event number: NCC109233) and the digital data deposited with ADS
