Description

Salvage excavations were carried out in dull, damp November weather which caused parts of the site, particularly the cemetery area, to become wet and muddy. Due to uncertainties in the road programme it was impossible to plan far in advance and eventually only an unforeseen delay enabled the excavation work to be carried out. Archaeological features extended for 250m along the road corridor. The site was divided into four areas. Although Roman features were exposed, that in the north (Area 4) was not examined beyond the collecting of dating material. (See ENN104317 for area of soil-stripping and drainage works observed)
