Description

The discovery of Roman remains during the replacement of a sewer to the east of Stoke Bruerne led to more detailed work by Northamptonshire Archaeology. The work revealed a group of pits, possibly relating to marl extraction, cut by part of a rectangular ditch system. Coins and pottery suggest that the remains date to the 4th century AD. The remains were only found in the original trench closest to the village, seven further trenches to the east contained no artefacts or features. Site code: SBP97
