Description

{1} The northern end of the site had been disturbed by a modern cellar and the excavation of a soakaway drain to a depth in excess of 1.5m. At the southern end of the trench the natural subsoil, consisting of bands of Northampton Sand and Ironstone, was located less than 0.1m below the modern ground surface. There was no evidence of the medieval defences and no artefacts dating from earlier than the 19th century were recovered from either stratified or unstratified contexts.
