Description

{1} A watching brief during the construction of a small shopping centre. A trench had been excavated 8m long north-south and 5m east to west and 1m deep to the rear of 49 Gold Street. The 0.6m comprised post-medieval build up and below, a layer of soil at least 0.8m thick containing pottery of 10th-14th century date. This may seal late Saxon deposits.
