Description

Two trenches, 1.5m wide, were opened up against the walls of the aisle; the first one, 5.27m long, along the whole length of the west wall; the second, 3.80m long, from the south-west corner of the aisle to the west wall of the 19th-century porch. The structures revealed included the foundations of the Saxon tower near its south-east corner; a massive, roughly rectangular, structure, set in the north-east corner of the first trench, mostly under the wall of the aisle; the foundations of the south aisle; the foundations of the west wall of the 19th-century porch. A group of successive burials was also found, many appeared to be contemporary with the Saxon tower
