Summary

(Ellard & Howes, Joseph Knight, W S Gilbert & Sons Ltd, Wearproff Ltd) A three-storey shoe factory that was built in the late 1890s and ' L' shaped on plan, stands on the north side of York Road. It consists of a main range, which is gabled north-south and consists of six pier and panel bays and a street range which extends westwards from gabled south front of the main range. The walls are of brick, with continuous moulded brick hood moulds, sandstone window sills linked by moulded brick string courses, and minimal limestone details. The roof appears to be relaid with concrete tiles. The south front utilises a superior orange brick; it is articulated by piers framing the main range and another at the west end of the street range, each with a moulded limestone cap. The building retains contemporary iron railings, standards and gates to the front.
