Summary

Boot & Shoe Factory (?Phipps & Son, ?Lovell Bros. Ltd., ?C.A. Gilkes). A three storey boot and shoe factory that was built circa 1895, presents a three bay south front with a pedimented gable to East Grove, and has return elevations of seven bays. The central south entrance has a blue brick cambered arch and quoins, and is set beneath a first-floor taking in doorway. This and other openings have plain cambered arches and blue brick sills. The original timber fenestration has survived. The size and type of these windows suggest that the building was intended as a shoe factory. Internally there are timber beams supported on cast-iron columns.
