Monument record 1301/44 - Nene Boot and Shoe Works, Marshall Road (R.Coggins & Sons Ltd.)

A now demolished boot and shop factory that was located on the south side of Marshall's Road. This brick-built factory had a two-storey office and entrance block with single storey sheds at its rear. The first phase was built in 1900, with extensions in 1901, 1919 and in the 1960s. The factory was demolished in 1999.

{1} Established in 1887, the original 19th century three-storey factory building survives to the rear of the main complex. Elaborate 20th century frontage (1919) with classical architectural embelishement. The building is still intact, but is out of use and up for sale. The structure would appear to be very vulnerable to re-development. The building has been demolished since the field visit took place.

{2} Marshall's Road factory erected in 1900, with a currying department added in 1901. Considerable development subsequently, with the street range dating to 1919 and a large expansion in the 1960s.
