Full Description

{1} Gasworks. The town was lighted with gas supplied by Burton Latimer Gas Co Ltd from 1892 onwards. The gasworks were located to the east of the railway, the majority of the works, as shown on early 20th century Ordnance Survey maps have now been dismantled, but a small gas compound remains. A 19th century article indicates that the gas works comprised a retort house, coal shed, lime and purifer sheds, workshops, meter house, manager's house and governor's house all of brick construction.

{2} The gasworks had a rail siding. In 1942, the Kettering Gas Order allowed Kettering Gas Co to add Burton Latimer to its supply region. Remaining plant was vested in the EMGB. In 1950 there was a gas integration scheme approved by the Ministry.
