Full Description

{1} The school on High Street was built by subscriptions from the Non-conformist community in Burton Latimer and many prominent non-conformists nationally, after many years of wrangling with the Church School authorities prior to 1891 and the School Board after this date. The school was non-denominational in structure and in 1905 was transferred to the County Education Authority.

The building was erected in 1898 at a cost of £2,500 and was enlarged in 1912. The building is still in use as a school 'East Lea, St Mary's Voluntary Controlled Primary School'. A domestic house shares the same plot of land as the school, possibly orginally built as a master's house.

{2} Built 1885 and 1898-9 by Gotch, but mundane Jacobean.
