Occupying a central position, it is at once attractive and distinct from the surrounding buildings but in capacity and businesslike appearance, the whole surmounted with stonework upon which is carved the letters DCS in the form of a monogram and the date of erection 1890.'

Original stores building was in Sheaf Street. New building acquired in1877 needed to be replaced by 1890. New building adjacent to Crown and Cushion public house - which was also purchased by the society in 1900.
