Full Description

Consisted of grocery store in centre - butchers to one side and drapery and boot and shoe department to the other, upper rooms consisted of committee room, large and commodious store rooms and lecture hall. The building is now used by a series of shops. 'Cannot but be impressed by that noble pile of buildings erected by the Committee of the Daventry Co-operative Society. Occupying a central position, it is at once attractive and distinct from the surrounding buildings but in capacity and businesslike appearance, the whole surmounted with stonework upon which is carved the letters DCS in the form of a monogram and the date of erection 1890.'
Original stores building was in Sheaf Street. New building acquired in1877 needed to be replaced by 1890. New building adjacent to Crown and Cushion public house - which was also purchased by the society in 1900.
