Full Description

{1} The Tower Factory shown on early Ordnance Survey maps has been demolished. John Shortland moved to Irthlingborough in 1875 - he established shoe works in Church Street after separating from his father and brother in 1899. Building extended in 1904; There were two production units and warehouse. Wearra brand used in 1906; 1919 John Shortland Ltd became an incorporated company on 15th November; 1929 took over original Tower Works for closing and rough stuff departments.

{2} Tower Factory, with 'Chateau-style' tower attached to 3-storey, 12-bay building. Some smaller 2-storey workshops survive below the works.
