Monument record 1624 - Irthlingborough

Offa is documented at Yrtlingaburg in 780 AD. There was a royal establishment here, as the name is derived from a fortified place, which was presumably the focus of a royal estate. This is thought to have been located at Crow Hill, originally an iron Age reused in the Anglo-Saxon period. There were two manors in Irthlingborough at Domesday and both were held by Peterborough Abbey.

{3} It seems that irthlingborough was mostly engaged in support industry for the boot and shoe trade eg currying.
