Full Description

{1} Horseshoe Inn, High Street. Building shown as public house on map. The building is now 'Horseshoe Inn' a brick building which is still in use as a public house. The building has a protruding bay window on the ground floor. Film ? Photo 24.

{2} Record of inn prior to conversion into residential apartments. North-east part of the building has probable 17th or 18th century origins. Constructed of roughly coursed limstone it comprised three storeys and a cellar. Probably a shop at the begininng of the 19th century and part of a longer terrace extending to the north-west. At some time in the 19th century the building was extended to the south-west, including a brick façade which encased the front elevation of the earlier building. From at least 1854 the property was a beer house (and possibly also a bakehouse). From 1865 it was a licenced premises known as the Horseshoe Inn. Plans, elevations and photographs;
