Full Description
{1} Mission Church, Buckby Wharf
The Mission Church was erected in 1875 to service the people living at Buckby Wharf. It was tied to St Lawrence's church, but was expected to be financially independent. The building is still in existence today, but has been converted into a domestic residence.
{3} The church is built in the Early English style of red brick with Bath stone dressings. The interior is built of pressed red brick with black brick and Bath stone banding with coloured arches. The floor is laid with Minton's encaustic tiles. It is heated by Porrett's underground stove. It is lighted on the north and south sides by six windows of small glazed quarry, with lemon-coloured margins. West entrance. The building is 60 feet by 23 and 30 feet high and can hold c200 people. A lancet window at the east end has the monogram HIS. The architect was Mr Josiah Denny of Buckby Wharf and the glazing was undertaken by Wills and Son of Long Buckby.
{4} States the architect was TH Vernon. Now residence.
