Full Description
{1} First school in Towcester endowed by Archdeacon Sponne 1448 - in 1902 its successor was one of only 8 endowed secondary schools in the county. 1928 evolved into Towcester Grammar School which in 1966 merged with secondary modern school to become Sponne school.
1890 New school buildings were erected in Brackley Road and later extended. The school buildings were totally destroyed by fire in December 1923. The site was rebuilt on with a red brick structure with stone dressings. The building was erected in 1929. The school is now known as 'Sponne School'. Film 1, photo 17,18.
{2} A new school was erected on a new site in Brackley Road in 1890, following two decades of closure.
