Full Description

In addition to the market cross, there were a series of crosses in the town in 1587, positioned at the main road junctions and associated with small ponds. The Newlands Cross, associated with a well or pond in 1587, was by 1720 reduced to a stump fixed in one of the walls of the Newlands pond (1) (2)
