Full Description
{1} The dam for the reservoir is at the south end. The original reservoir was completed in 1811 and provided water for the summit level of the Oxford Canal at a point 2 and a half miles to the west by a winding feeder channel. It was enlarged in 1833 and the dam rebuilt in 1983.
{3} Water was needed from sources above the canal so that it could be fed by gravity. Thus reservoirs were built at … Boddington by the damming of the Highfurlong Brook. The reservoirs were built by constructing dams of earth and stone across valleys which resulted in natural beds of mud and silt. At Boddington the reservour is contained within a barren stone embankment on much of the west and north sides. Water is drawn off from the dam by means of external wheels and excess water cascades into a sluice beneath a jetty off the dam.
