Abstract/Summary
Northamptonshire might be considered the powerhouse of the East Midlands. Four of Britains leading rivers rise from within its boundaries, the Nene, the Ouse, the Welland and the Avon. Watford Gap is commonly regarded as forming the division between the north and the south. The county’s reservoirs were a major factor in the economy, providing water for all the town’s and canals on which the working population depended.
