Full Description

{1} Site of former quarries, used as a source of stone for many of Northampton's buildings.

{2} Quarries (e.g. SP 695641, 705640, 708638). In the centre of the parish, around and to the S. of the village, are several large quarry pits, dug into the underlying Northampton Sand. Most are of post-medieval date, but other are probably much older and Morton recorded some of them as 'very ancient'.
