Full Description
{1} Quarry earthworks within Slatepit Plantation. These not depicted as quarries on 19th and 20th century OS and other plans. Possibly considerably older, and as the name implies, a source of 'Duston' roofing slate. Possibly the quarries referred to by S Sharp in 1870 (p.371) as the pit which when opened "a few years ago… exposed some of the old workings, carried on, at some unknown distant time, for the obtaining of slate alone".
