Building record 8445/3/9 - WWII Pillbox

Demolished World War II Type 22 pillbox at Sywell Airfield. East of Holcot Lane, on the south west side of the aerodrome 140m north of Park Pond.

{1} Type 22 pillbox: brick walls, concrete roof. Now destroyed. Recorded as building No. 67 on Air Ministry Record Site plan 3822/56

{2} A large thick-walled Type 22 pillbox, with 3ft thick reinforced concrete walls and only three loopholes, suggesting that it was built later than the other Sywell pillboxes when it was realised that German paratroopers were equipped with several 2cm anti-tank guns.

{4} E of Holcot Lane, on the SW side of the aerodrome 140m N of Park Pond.
