Type and Period (1)
Full Description
{1} Garage "it is likely that (this) originally built as Land Army Hostel, and when the war drew to a close were then used as POW hostels, possibly as late as 1948, to house prisoners working on local farms." As such would be similar to buildings at Greens Norton, Naseby and Yelvertoft.
Info in letter of 10.4.02: Has same brick ablutions block and timber hutting combination as with the hostel at Yelvertoft. Currently "in a semi-derelict state but retains several original outbuildings and a brick entrance at what would have been the far (north) end of the timber hutting, if it remained. There is no evidence of the ‘T’ shaped layout, as at Greens Norton and Naseby, and may have been designed to house smaller numbers, but still using the same ‘kit’ of parts."
Parent POW camp for the Hostel at Corby was the POW camp at Weekley, (Boughton Hse) Camp 259.
