Full Description

{1} Two Cold War features. “Although the aerodrome has only ever had a grass surface, it was necessary in the 1950s to lay concrete hard standings at each end of the main runway to stop the grass being burnt and the ground blown away by the Vampire jets then being serviced there.” A check on the NCC vertical Aps indicates that both hard standings measure approximately 30m square and survive in situ.
