Full Description
{1} In the area to the west of the A605, along the line of the 'old ' Oundle Road, previous road improvements schemes and modern services had casued considerable disturbance, and the ground had been raised by a 1.5 above the original ground level. No archaeological features were encountered in this area, although residual Roman pottery was recovered from the made up deposits. To the east of the A605, three substantial Roman ditches were revealed, two of which merge together. The purpose of the ditches is unknown. The pottery was largely late C1st to C2nd date, although the sherd of colour coated ware could date as late as the C4th AD. Four other features of unknown date, including a possible pit, a gully and a ditch were also recorded in this area.
