{3} The medieval church of St Luke at Duston was granted to St James' Abbey between 1148 and 1153.

{6} Evidence (in the form of carved stone) to suggest that a new wall was erected in 1791 (possibly by Mr Greene, the occupier of Duston Hall at the time).

{8} D.Blackburn asserts that Roman road stone is incorporated into St Luke's Church. "This is because it is composed of thin layers of stone, in a district where large pieces are readily available. My view has always been that a readily available Roman road had been used. "Finds of Roman coin and tile within churchyard" - see monument 7066/0/0.

{13} Originally a cruciform church and retains its central tower. The original nave apparently had no aisles. (Plan and photographs).
