Summary

A school built in 1893 to the designs of JA Gotch from red brick with stone dressings under hipped and gabled machine tiled roofs. The building is mainly one-storey except the centre block which is two-storeys with a campanile tower.

Full Description

{2} 1893 in original variant of Carolean style by J A Gotch. Symmetrical front. Red brick with stone dressings, hipped and gabled machine tiled roofs. 1 storey; 2 storey centre has campanile tower with arched panels to top stage under tall roof with segmental pediment to front. Recessed centre, gables to centres of wings. 4:5:4 windows, casements and sashes under flat and segmental arches with keystones. Central doorway has segmental pediment on long carved consoles. North elevation projecting centre, 5:12:7 windows.

{4} Erected 1893-4. Designed by J.A. Gotch in a distinctive red brick and terracotta.There is a central tower to the building. The building is still in existence today, but in now boarded up and out of use. Film 10, photo 20, Film 14, photo 2-4.
Kettering School Board wanted architect designed schools so that they would not look like Board Schools. They wanted the building to be distinguished not merely utilitarian.
