Full Description

{1} Late C17. Ironstone, ashlar front, hipped Welsh slated roof with 2 pedimented sash dormers with small panes. 2 storeys and attics, modillioned wooden cornice. 6 sash windows with glazing bars in plain surrounds with small keystones. Modern central door in wooden porch with small pediment. South front 1806. The Church of St Botolph, Rectory and Rectory Cottage form a group.

{5} The evidence suggests that the north range was built in the late 17th century. The Gentleman's Magazine of 1817 records that the south range was added in 1806, while the west addition probably dates from the same time and represents the new offices mentioned in the 1817 description.
The late 17th century plan was, in all probability, that of the traditional sub-medieval two storey long house with three units, a central chimney stack and attic accomodation above. The original fireplaces have been removed. The roof is constructed as an 'upper cruck', in four bays, with heavy oak tie-beams, pair of butt purlins, and collars. Sketch plans and section

{6} Probably shows the original 17th century door with a triangular pediment.
