Full Description

{1} Remains of bath house. Probably mid C19 but possibly earlier origin. Coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, formerly with glazed roof. Rectangular building, round-headed entrance to north with Latin inscription above. East side has 3 niches, probably for statues. Interior contained bath, and opposite the entrance a reclining figure of a woman, with a verse by Thomas Warton inscribed above.

{2}Roofless rectangular building of stone; named "Roman Bath House"; wall niches for statuary; entrance on north side; inside is large rectangular lined tank with overflow; roof was possibly originally glazed; garden feature of C17th-C19th date

{3}Illustration but very sketchy; head of water from St Peter's petrifying spring furnishes drinking fountain & adjacent bath; bath in centre of small building now falling into decay; niches in walls serve as seats; formerly had glazed roof but now gone; brick floor; at head of bath opposite doorway is sculptured large recumbent figure of sleeping woman with lines written above; 4 or 5 years ago old pipe conveying water from spring near bath to edge of lake was uncovered; head of spring was cleared out & fountain again playing; parish memory has it that vault was found near bath about 100 years ago & was filled up again but this does not appear to have been this head of spring
