Summary

Landscape park and gardens to Rushton Hall covering an area of 92 hectares. The park was enclosed during the late 16th century and assumed its present form during the early and mid 19th century. Formal gardens may have been laid out during the late 16th century. Formal gardens, terraced gardens and walled gardens were documented in 1741. Most of the gardens had been removed by the early 19th century. In 1900 Thomas Mawson was commissioned to design formal terraced gardens and to renovate the park. The gardens had been completed by 1909.

{2}Pleasantly seated declining southwards to River Ise which runs here under stone bridge of 2 arches; manor is to Lord Cullen whose seat adjoins garden & paddock equally elegant & pleasant;Tresham family passed to Sir William Cockayne Lt Alderman & once Lord Mayor of London; died 3rd Charles I ie.1628; Lord Viscount Cullen is his descendant
