Full Description

{1} 3 houses. C17 and C18. Squared coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roofs. Originally one- and 2-unit plans forming an L-shape range. Single storey with attics, and 2 storeys. Together comprising an 8-window range, at ground floor. 4-light, ovolo-moulded stone mullion, window to ground floor far right. 5 horizontal sliding sash windows, with glazing bars, under wood lintels, to ground floor centre. 2 C19 casement windows, under wood lintels, to right. 3 leaded casements to first floor left, nder eaves and 3 hipped eaves dormers, with leaded casements, to right. 2 plank doors between windows, to right, are under wood lintels. Ashlar gable parapet to right and stone stacks at ridge. Elevation of rear range, to left is a 2-window range of leaded casements under wood lintels. Ground floor window, to left, is a C20 casement. 4-panel door under wood lintel to right and stable door under wood lintel to left. Ashlar gable parapet to left and ashlar ridge and end stacks with remains of m ulded cornices. Interiors not inspected but The Old Post Office noted as having moulded spine beams.

{3} Middle Cottage and Cliffe End Cottage. A pair of houses, one storey and attics, class 4a sharing a central stack; parapeted N. gable. To S. is a two-storey class 4c house, now sub-divided. All have a 17th-century origin.
The Old Post Office, two storeys, class 1b, end-on to the street, parapeted gable on the W., hipped on the E. where it joins an adjacent range at right angles; 17th-century. Four-light mullioned window with label, twin-flue ashlar stack. Inside, the E. room has an ovolo-moulded, wave-stopped cross beam.
