Full Description
{1} Pair of houses. Early C19 for Brudenell family of Deene Hall. Squared coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Single-unit plans with scullery. 2 storeys. Together comprising a 4-window range of C19 casements under shallow stone arches. C19 plank doors to far left and right, under similar heads. Hipped roof with wide eaves and central stone stack. Small single-storey range to rear. Interiors not inspected.
{3} The cottages were in a semi-derelict state when surveyed in 2000. A photographic record was made of all facades and selected coverage of the interiors with detailed record of certain features such as fireplaces, doors, windows etc. A written record was made on a room by room basis, with plans supplied by the owner being annotated.
The cottages comprise a two storey symmetrical block of squared coursed rubble, consisting mostly of limestone with occasional Northampton Sand Ironstone. At the eastern end two single storey barns have been added at a later date, with two further brick sheds, now demolished. The quoins at the corners of the cottages are of ashlar limestone, while the openings for the doors and windows are of squared rubble. The front of the building faces south-west, though in the report is described as 'south'. Detailed descriptions are given with plans, elevations and photographs.
