Summary

A house built in 1829 with 20th century alterations to the rear is located on the western side of the road in Shotley, east of Harringworth. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a double pitch Welsh slate roof with ashlar parapets and brick chimney stacks at the gable ends. The house is L shaped in plan with a projecting staircase between the angles at the rear. The entrance facade has a three window range of unhorned sashes with glazing bars to the first floor with two similar windows below that flank a central door. Above the door is a datestone with the inscription JS/1829.

Full Description

House. Datestone JS/1829 by John Sculthorpe. Squared coursed limestone with Welsh slate roof. L-shape plan. 2 storeys. 3-window range of unhorned sash windows, with glazing bars, under gauged stone heads. Central, 6-anel, door under similar head. Ashlar gable parapets and brick stacks at ends. Datestone above door. Rear elevation has staircase projection in angle between wings. Some C20 alterations to rear.
