Abstract/Summary

Defualt value for recording former list descriptions derived from the 'greenbacks'. The Department of the Environment (DoE) was created in 1970 and took over responsibility for listing and who implemented the production of hardcopy indexes of listed buildings (known as Greenbacks). Formerly managed by the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works (who managed the Historic Houses Record-HHR) and Local Government. [Unsure of the relationship between the HHR and List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest maintained by the Minister of Town and Country Planning according to the 1947 Town and Country Planning Act].
