Summary

A post medieval farmhouse that was built in 1626 and partially rebuilt and extended during the mid 19th century is situated on the south eastern side of Blatherwyke Road, opposite the junction with Millies Lane. The farmhouse is T shaped in plan with the gable of the crosswing breaking forward on the right side of the road facade. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and brick with double pitch slate roofs with ridge and end chimney stacks. The long range facing the road has two light casement windows to the first floor and three light casements under stone lintels with key blocks on the ground floor. The gable of the crosswing has a canted bay window with a slate roof on the ground floor beneath a three light casement window within a stone surround. An attic range of the crosswing is lit by a two light ovolo moulded stone mullion window set high and to the left of the gable apex. In the apex of the gable is a datestone bearing the inscription 1626/IE. On the left side of the crosswing gable has a blocked two light window on the ground floor in a moulded stone surround. The right return of the crosswing is the entrance elevation and has a three window range of casements under wooden lintels and a gabled porch with bargeboards is situated on the right.

Full Description

{1} Farmhouse now house. Datestone 1626/1E, partially rebuilt and extended mid C19. Squared coursed limestone and brick with slate roof. T-shape plan. 2 storeys. Main front is a 3-window range with gabled cross-wing breaking forward to right. Cross-wing is C17 with a C19 canted wood bay window at ground floor and a C19 casement window, to first floor, set in C17 moulded stone surround. C17 two-light stone mullion window to attic. Left return of cross-wing has single-light window, now blocked, to gro nd floor with a C17 moulded stone surround. Similar 2-light stone mullion window above. Stone mullion windows have ovolo mouldings and hood moulds. 2-window range to left is C19, with casement windows under stone lintels with keyblocks. Left hand corner incorporates earlier structure. Datestone to apex of gable. Brick stacks at ridge and at apex of gable. Elevation to right is a 3-window range of irregular C20 casements under renewed wood lintels. C19 gabled porch with bargeboards, to right. 19 extensions to rear, part of rear wall of the C19 range is brickwork. Interior; room to first floor of cross-wing has stop-chamfered spine beams.
