Full Description
{1} House and attached barn. C18 remodelled C19 and early C20. Squared coursed limestone with thatch roofs. House is a 2-window range of casements, with glazing bars, under artificial stone lintels. Central C20 door, under similar lintel, has lean-to thatch porch. Ashlar gable parapet to left and stone stack at end. Oval plaque in left gable. Rear is similar. Barn attached to right has central cart entrance, under wood lintel, with C20 plank doors. Small plank door, to rear, is flanked by casement windows. Interior of barn has 2 pairs of raised crucks, probably reset also altered.
{3} RCHME suggests that this building was formerly a barn belonging to Green Farm. Early C19th thatched barn of three bays, incorporating two re-used cruck trusses with saddles at the apex. Modern tie beams and collars.
[4} A level 2 historic building survey was carried out of the thatched barn as part of a programme of redevelopment at Green Farm. Thatched roof has a half hip on the south end but a straight gable on the north end. On the west elevation it has a centrally located full-height set of double doors indicating that it was first built as a threshing barn, those on the east elevation have been blocked and replaced with a pedestrian doorway. To the north of the doors is a slit vent which is probably part of the original design. To the south of the doors on the west elevation is a rectangular window with a wide a plank shutter and a pegged frame. This is likely to be of early 19th-century date but has probably been enlarged from a slit vent. A small square wood-framed window located to the south of doorway on the east elevation was probably similarly adapted.
