A 17th century roofless gatehouse of two storeys

Full Description

{1} Gatearch. C17. Limestone ashlar and brick. Square plan. 2 storeys. 2 semi-circular archways with plain springers and keyblocks. Blank upper storey with moulded string course. South face of upper storey has central cartouche, small flanking shields and C20 plaque. No floor or roof structures. Upper storey is part brick-lined internally. Originally gateway to the former Clopton Hall.

{3} There is also a rather earlier square, roofless gatehouse of two storeys, with coats of arms including that of the Dudleys, who owned the property from the C14th until 1764.
