Full Description

{1} Post medieval stone building with tiled roof, in a very isolated position and difficult to access. It was still used in 1965 by the Towcester Mill & Trading Co.

{3} Watermill and attached house, now clubhouse. Mid/late C18th. Squared coursed limestone and brick, with yellow and red pantile roofs. Rectangular plan. 2 storeys with attic. 3-window range of C19 and C20 casements under wood lintels, with ashlar surrounds. Plank door to left, also under wood lintel, has similar door, above, to first floor, with C20 external iron staircase. Ground floor wall breaks forward and has a chamfered plinth between floors. 2 gabled roof dormers and brick stack at end. One-u it, 2-storey, building attached to left was originally the mill house. Similar with sash window and brick stack at end. Large cast-iron drive wheel attached to right of first floor. Mill race passes under centre of building. Right gable partially rebuilt in brick. Rear elevation is a 4-window range of C20 casements under renewed wood lintels. 3 gabled roof dormers. Interior not inspected.

{5} 1086 Domesday survey records Ticemerse with one mill rendering 21 s4d.
1613 reference to a mill Tyrringham's manor.
1818 Executors of John Rippin were tenants of Titchmarsh Mill.
1849-94 William Hill, farmer and miller at Titchmarsh Mill.
1903-24 John Pashlar, miller
By 1965 it was owned by the Merchant Venturers and occupied by Towcester Mill & Trading Co.


{6} Mill wheel and machinery associated with the former millstones is retained in the west end of the building. On the ground floor in the room adjoining the wheel and machinery, some of the wooden roof joists contain graffiti relating to earlier use.

{7} The internal waterwheel is in a dilapidated state but the gearing from it on the ground floor is in situ. The first floor has been cleared of all but one bed-stone. Behind a partition on the first floor are ther emaining pairs of mill-stones, each set still has most of its stone furniture.
