Full Description

{1} Manor house. Probably medieval origins, mainly late C16th, remodelled late C18th. Squared coursed limestone with C20 artificial stone slate roof. Originally probably a single-ended hall house, now 3-unit plan with cross wing. 2 storeys. Entrance front of 3-window range of irregularly spaced plain and tripartite sash windows, all with glazing bars, under wood lintel and gauged stone heads. 6-panelled door to left of centre under similar head has glazed porch. Ashlar gable parapet to right and brick s ack at ridge. Lower range at right angles to left of entrance front is attached to rear of cross wing and has casement windows and C20 door to right. Garden front is a 3-window range with gabled cross wing breaking forward to right. Cross wing has 4-light stone mullion windows to ground floor and similar larger window with transom, to first floor; the upper lights of this window are blocked. Other windows are plain and tripartite sashes under gauged stone heads, with ashlar surrounds, C20 porch to centre. Ashlar gable parapets and 2 lateral ashlar stacks with moulded cornices at intersections of cross wing and main range. Wall attached to left of garden front is C18 brickwork and links with C18 ashlar gatepier with ball finial. Gatepier forms pair with gatepier approximately 20 metres north-east of Manor House (q.v.). Interior not inspected but noted as having arched braced roof trusses above a later ceiling, in first floor room of cross wing. This room was probably the solar of the hall house.
