Full Description

{1} Watermill, now a house. Medieval origins, but mainly mid/late C18, date 1838 probably refers to roof raising: restored mid C20. Regular coursed limestone with Colleyweston slate roof. Originally rectangular plan, now L-shape. 2 storeys with attic. Main front is an irregular 5-window range at first floor of C19 style casements under original wood lintels. Some first floor openings were originally door openings. 2 small openings to ground floor right also under wood lintels. 2 gabled eaves doors to ttic and 5 small C20 attic windows. Central C20 door under original wood lintels with C20 canopy. Former cart entrance, to far right, now blocked recess, has wood lintel over. Ashlar quoins and 8 dated tie plates c.1838 between first floor and attic. C20 stone stack at ridge and lateral stack to right. 2 mill races pass under building to left and right of main entrance. That to left has ashlar segmental-arch head. Elevation to right is of C19 wing at right angles to main range. 3 C20 garage d ors at ground floor and 2-window range of C19 style casements with ashlar surrounds at first floor. 2 eaves dormers to attic. Rear elevation is similar to front elevation with 3 irregularly spaced C19 style casements. Ground floor has 3 C20 French doors. Ashlar buttress to right hand corner set back at first floor level probably to accommodate earlier sluice gate. Bay to far left of main front has straight joint, also visible at rear, indicating later build. Interior: ground floor has remains of sluice and wheel gear. Attic room to right of main front has remains of pulley gear. Some original floor structure and original roof structures survive.

{3} Post medieval/modern stone building with tiled roof. A date of 1838 on tile plates on outside of the building. It was uninhabited in 1965. A Gilkes turbine engine was reputedly installed in 1907. The mill was last used in 1964.
